I first got Fable with the Crimson Skies game in an Xbox crystal limited edition bundle. It was a Christmas present from my dad. I was probably all but 8 years old. When I first played Fable for that first time a little over 20 years ago, I had no idea it would become one of my favourite games of all time.
It was definitely what got me into the RPG genre. Fable just had something magical about it. The freedom to shape your hero, the charm and humour throughout the world, and the unique characters that made the game memorable. Now, more than two decades later, very few games have captured that same feeling for me.
That's why the latest reveal for the upcoming Fable reboot just hit so hard.
After an eternity away from you all, Jack of Blades is back!
For longtime fans of the series, Jack of Blades isn't just another video game villain. He _is_ Fable. The mysterious mask, the flowing red robes, and the calm yet unsettling voice. He wasn't just evil for the sake of being evil; he was ancient, manipulative, and always seemed several steps ahead.
Jack of Blades served as the main antagonist of the original Fable, orchestrating many of the tragic events that shaped the Hero of Oakvale's journey. According to the lore, Jack is one of the ancient beings known as the Court of Blades, entities originating from mysterious Void that existed long before Albion as we know it. Defeated by the legendary hero William Black, Jack survived by binding his essence to his iconic mask, allowing him to persist through the ages by possessing new hosts.
That lore helped make him feel larger than life. He wasn't just a villain you defeated, he was an ancient force deeply connected to the very foundations of fable's world. The mystery surrounding his origins and the terrifying idea that the mask itself could carry on his legacy made him one of gaming most iconic antagonists.
Seeing Jack of Blades revealed for the reboot instantly brought back memories of exploring Oakvale, training at the Heroes' Guild, and uncovering the darker secrets hidden beneath Albion's whimsical surface. It also signals that Playground Games understands what made the original fable special. While this reboot is introducing a new generation of players into Albion, bringing back a character as beloved and recognizable as Jack of Blades feels like a bridge between the series' past and future.
The reaction from the Fable community even says it all. Fans have spent years speculating about whether Jack would return in some form, and his appearance in the newest trailer has reignited excitement across the entire fandom.
As someone who continues to play Fable even today, and has this game at #1 of his favourite game list, this reveal has completely reignited my hype for the reboot.
And honestly?
Returning to Albion wouldn't have felt complete without him.
The newest Fable trailer takes a noticeably darker tone than previous showcases, building tension as it explores the legends and dangers that still haunt Albion. Just when it seems like the story is introducing entirely new threats, the reveal arrives.
The brief glimpse of the masked figure is enough to send chills down the spine of any longtime Fable fan. The iconic design remains instantly recognizable. It serves as both nostalgic callback, and a promise that the reboot ins't forgetting the rich history that made the original games so beloved.
With Fable now scheduled to launch on February 23,2027, the return of Jack of Blades has become one of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming reboot.
Welcome back Jack,
Albion has missed you.
